Volunteering for RCABs ...

The Richmond Citizens Advice Bureau Service (RCABS) gives free, confidential advice on every subject from debt, benefits, housing and employment, to law, immigration and discrimination. It is independent and gives advice in an unbiased way.

We recommend improvements to local and national policy based on experience of clients' problems.

RCABS values volunteers highly. 90% of people in the CAB Service are volunteers.

CAB is committed to equal opportunities for its workers and clients, and welcomes volunteers regardless of race, gender, sexuality, class, age, beliefs or disability.

Voluntary work for a RCABs can include:
  • Office administration
  • Working with new technology
  • Giving advice to clients
  • Serving on a CAB trustee board
  • Developing new policy
Why volunteer
  • Voluntary work for a CAB gives good experience for paid employment, both in the CAB Service and elsewhere .

Who can volunteer

RCABS cares about what kind of people its volunteers are, not what they know before they start. So,

  • Are you a good listener?
  • Are you willing to learn and enjoy helping others?
  • Can you commit yourself to a certain number of hours each week?
  • Do you support equal opportunities?

If you answer 'Yes' to all these questions, you could become a CAB volunteer.

Training for CAB advisers
  • Training for CAB advisers is very thorough and will give you the skills and information you need to be an effective worker.

If you want to find out more about volunteering with us please email our Service Development Manager, Carol O'donell.
